Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question that hasn’t been covered, just email us on info@exmoorbeast.org and we’ll do our best to help.
Bike Preparation
Please ensure your bike is in good serviceable condition.
Check you brakes, if you have disc brakes check the fluid levels, if you have brake blocks check their wear.
Check that all nuts and bolts are tightened.
Take spare tubes and a small tool kit.
Check your tyres especially the tyre walls as some riders last year had big blow outs which can be both dangerous and very disappointing half way into the ride.
Make sure you have lights for your bike.
Nutrition
Think about your nutrition and have something for back up with you in case you need a boost of energy.
Clothing
Be prepared for bad cold wet weather.
What kind of shape do I need to be in to meet the challenge?
DO NOT underestimate the steep climbs you will encounter and the possible weather conditions that you may have to contend with in November.
We welcome all levels of ability and encourage you to set your own target for the ride. When you arrive at the start, you should have already done enough preparation to allow you to complete the ride without being distressed. As a general guide you should already be comfortable with covering 80% of the distance of the Exmoor route. It is also vitally important to understand that Exmoor’s terrain is very demanding for cyclists, particularly if the weather provides additional demands, so be prepared and bring both sun cream and waterproofs with you. The Exmoor Beast is not a race so remember to always ride at the pace you are comfortable with and enjoy the experience. It’s a long way so do not push too hard at the start and try to stay with a group who are above your ability.
Unless you are a top cyclist air on the side of caution so you can complete the event to ‘Tame the Beast’ and not be a ‘Victim’!!!!!!????
How many riders can take part?
In year three, we have restricted the participation to 1,500 which will position the Exmoor Beast in the top echelon of U.K. sportives.
What if I have a problem while I’m with you?
Our philosophy is that people come first, so if you run into problems you are never far away from one of our four safety wagons patrolling the route during the event.
What kind of accommodation can I expect?
Butlins have kindly offered many units of accommodation for the event on site at a reduced price, this is on a first come first served basis. All the local B&B’S have been informed of the event, there are some links listed below.
